Dear Parents and Carers,
Communication is key with the success of your child’s schooling. At STM, we value communication with parents and welcome questions, feedback and conversations. Currently, this is proving a little more challenging; however, staff have been available for phone calls, email and zoom.
When our students do not follow our expectations (Respect More | Think More | Encourage More) they are asked to complete a Reflection Sheet. With the younger students this is done collaboratively with the staff member involved. If the incident requires parents to be informed this sheet is emailed/sent home to parents. Any serious incidents are communicated with parents through a phone call.
As is the case with children, they don’t always tell us what is happening. In these cases, we rely on parents to share with us the worries and concerns of our students. As the saying goes, “If we don’t know, we can’t do anything about it”. We will always endeavour to rectify the situation or support the student in these situations.
It is always important to remember that we should not take away the responsibility of the student in such situations. Often, it is better they are given the language and skills needed to deal with playground matters as they arise themselves. This enable them to have a voice and practice the skills they will need in life to deal with social interactions.
For your information, our Anti-Bullying Policy is located on our website under “Forms and Documents”.
STM Feast Day
Next Monday is our Feast Day. This year it will look a little different due to the restrictions we have in place. We will; however, ensure the students have a fun day. The day will begin with Mass; thank you to Fr Emil for celebrating Mass with us on his allocated rest day. After recess, the students will play card and board games. Your child is welcome to bring in a game to play with friends. We are having a pizza lunch, followed by a movie and popcorn afternoon.
* Today is the last day for pizza orders. If you have not sent in your child’s pizza note, please email the front office asap.
Sick children
According to ACT Health, if your child experiences a loss of smell, loss of taste, runny nose, muscle pain, joint pain, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting or loss of appetite they must not attend school. Additionally, if your child has a fever of 37.5 degrees or greater (or recent history of fever such as chills or night sweats); or respiratory infection (such as shortness of breath, cough, or sore throat) your child is eligible to be tested for COVID-19.
If students present with any of the above symptoms, parents will be called to pick their child up as soon as practical.
YWCA Holiday Program
Bookings are currently open for the YWCA Holiday Program.
Yours Sincerely,

Dear Parents,
We’ve had an overwhelming response to the MS Readathon challenge. Thank you very much for jumping onboard and donating to a very worthy cause. As of today, we have 61 students registered and we have raised over $1700!! Incredible! Please email me madeleine.reid@cg.catholic.edu.au if you have registered but live in NSW and you would like me to add your child to their class account.
If you have not had a chance to register, there is still plenty of time! Throughout the month of August we will be reading as many books as possible to raise funds for kids who have a parent living with Multiple Sclerosis.
Help Us Reach Our Goal!
Each class will have their own class page to log their reading progress. Parents must register their child to participate in the reading challenge. Donations can be small contributions as little as $1 & $2 dollars.
Register before the 31st July to receive a free pencil case.
Follow these steps:
- Login on to the webpage www.msreadathon.org.au
- Click on the register now tab.
- Select that you are registering a child.
- Complete the registration form beginning with parent guardian details.
- Complete your child’s/childrens’ details and search for St Thomas More’s Primary ACT School and select their class. (Kinder, Year 1, Year 2 ect).
- IMPORTANT! For families who live in NSW, you may not be able to view our school or classes (as our school is in the ACT). I have called the organisers and they are working to correct this. If you cannot select our school, no problem! I can add your child to our class pages at the end of this term.
- Donation goals are just a guide and there is no expectation to raise the amounts suggested. Even small donations of $1 or $2 will be making a difference on a whole school scale.
- You can register now to receive a free t-shirt, or you can register anytime up until the beginning of August.
Can I register multiple children under one email address?
Yes! Start by entering your parent or guardian details first. When you get to the ‘children’ step of registrations, simply hit the ‘add’ button to put in your child’s details. If you’d like to add another child under the same email, select the ‘add another’ button. You can register up to 5 children under the one email address.
If you would like assistance with completing these registrations please feel free to give MS a call on 1300 677 323 and we can assist you.
Happy Reading!
