Kenny Koala
Last Thursday Kinder and Year 1 had a visit from Kenny Koala and his new handler, Emily. Kenny had 3 important messages for staying safe in the community 1. Stay close 2. Hold hands 3. Listen.
Kenny also reminded us that we are the boss of our own bodies and that we need to respect other people’s body boundaries. He spoke about people in our community who can help us if we are feeling unsafe. These people usually wear a uniform or wear a badge that has their name on it and where they work.
Kenny asked if the children knew their parent’s phone numbers and names. He gave us another tip of advice – have a parent write their phone number inside their shoe or on the label of their clothes. If they forget the number, someone can still help them and contact a family member.
In Term 3, the whole school participates in a Protective Behaviours program as part of the Health curriculum. These safety messages are good to share at any time of the year and Kenny helped us remind Kinder and Year One of how to keep themselves safe and grow in courage if they aren’t feeling safe.

Child Safe Advocate
Did you know that Catholic Education and our school has a Child Safe Policy which outlines our approach to child safety. This can be accessed on the Catholic Education Safeguarding Page. We encourage you to visit this page and review our policy. As part of our approach to child safety Mrs Skye McPadden is also our schools Child Safe Advocate who works closely with our school regarding our approach and response to child safety matters. This approach involves proactive strategies to safeguard our students as well as responding to areas of concerns. The area of child safety includes many parts of a schools operation such as day to day activities, school events and school camps. We encourage you to contact us should you like to discuss this further.
Constable Kenny Koala visited Kindergarten and Year one last week. He talked to the students about being safe in the community. Everyone enjoyed his visit especially going to see his car and siren..
