Grandparents Day
We look forward to welcoming Grandparents and Special Friends on Friday at 8:50am in Holy Faith Hall. Our Kindergarten children have prepared to lead our Centred in Faith Gathering linking with Palm Sunday. After the gathering, our visitors will be invited to our classrooms to complete an activity with our children supporting them to Think More to Grow in Wisdom. Finally, at 10:30am our visitors will meet in the library courtyard for morning tea prepared by our Year 2 families. Thank you to all those in our community who have worked so hard to make this day a success.
Acting Religious Education Coordinator - Terms 2 and 3
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Andrea McQuirk to the position of Acting Religious Education Coordinator for Terms 2 and 3 as I take long service leave and Nicole Mikkonen and Skye McPadden step into the positions of Principal and Assistant Principal. Andrea brings a wealth of knowledge in the application of High Impact Teaching Practices across the curriculum and will support our teachers in ensuring our Xplore More units of study are knowledge rich. In addition to this, she will be well equipped to lead the Catholic life of our school following her participation as a pilgrim to World Youth Day in 2023. I am confident that Nicole, Skye and Andrea will form a strong leadership team in my absence and ensure the continued growth of our community in line with our school creed.
Dogs on Site
We would like to ask parents to be vigilant when deciding to bring dogs on-site. Whilst we understand that some of our families walk to and from school with their pet, we also need to minimise risk to students and community members who may be fearful, or over friendly with dogs, and the distraction they can cause while teachers supervise students. We ask that dogs are kept on a leash at all times and that students be discouraged from approaching dogs without their parents present.

SCHOOL COUNSELLING
Hi Families, my name is Anna Cater and I am pleased to be working as School Counsellor at St Thomas More’s this year. I am a Social Worker and have spent the last 14 years working with children and families in Canberra in a variety of different roles in various community settings.
In school counselling, I can provide short-term client-centred support to children and families, drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Strengths-based, Mindfulness and Trauma-informed approaches, in a developmental context. I provide support for children experiencing things such as anxiety, low mood, difficulties with peer and social relationships, family changes/separation, stress, difficulty with emotional regulation, and grief and loss. I am also a trained facilitator in a range of evidence-based emotion and attachment focused parenting programs and can provide parent consultations and support. Where additional support is needed beyond the 6-8 sessions offered in school counselling, or children/families are experiencing complex challenges, I can provide referrals to appropriate services in the community.
I am at St Thomas More’s on Wednesdays, and can be contacted during the school term, via email - Anna.Cater@mccg.org.au. If you have any questions or would like further information about school counselling, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me via email or speak to your child’s classroom teacher for a link to our referral form.
