Parent Teacher Interviews
We look forward to welcoming parents to our school on Monday and Tuesday next week for Parent Teacher Interviews. The purpose of the interview is to have a conversation about how your child has settled into the school year and to set goals for their continued growth.
Swimming Carnival 2024
What a wonderful day we all had at Queanbeyan Pool for our annual Swimming Carnival! The children were able to stay in the shade, keep up their hydration and compete in events or enjoy the fun of the novelty. Thank you to our 5/6 team for your coordination of the event and to all our parents who engaged in volunteering to make the event a success.
Principal Staffing Announcement - as previously announced
For those families who are new to the school, we would like to announce the appointment of Nicole Mikkonen to the role of Acting Principal at St Thomas More's in Terms 2 and 3 this year. I will be taking this time as leave to travel around Australia with my family in our caravan. I have every confidence that Nicole will excel in leading our community during this time and continuing the teaching and learning excellence that exists at St Thomas More's. The recruitment process for the Acting Assistant Principal is currently underway and an announcement is expected to be made in the coming weeks.
Luke Donnelly
Principal
Year 2
Year 2 have been looking at small, medium and big problems recently. We have made sure to speak about reactions to our emotions and how a simple overreaction can lead to us turning a small problem into a big problem. We have also been getting right into our Maths and Literacy Daily Reviews, hoping to increase our knowledge of concepts we have learnt over the last 5 weeks.
From the Council chair (A little chintz number by the fire)
In our first STM School Community Council last week discussion centred on the implementation of the new Catholic Education School Community Council charter, and what this means going forward for STM’s council. Part of this was the frequency of the council meetings and introducing more open meetings to obtain direct feedback from parents and carers. The first of these open meetings is on Tuesday 2 April from 1800-1930 or 6pm to 7.30pm. Please come along if you can, this is a great way to get to know one another and grow positive communications and actions at STM. You don’t have to wait for meetings either, you can use the STM School Council email stm.communitycouncil@cg.catholic.edu.au, to bring up any concerns or provide ideas and feedback.
The STM Annual Improvement Plan 2024 was also discussed. This document continues to assist teachers and students in their learning and growth within the Australian curriculum and High Impact Teaching Practices with STM has already seen great success.
Parent contact co-ordinators for each year level are still adding to the class contact lists. If you’re not on the list and would like to be involved, please get in touch with Ariana Strmota who is co-ordinating the parent representatives and class activities.
Finally, for those who can make it, I look forward to working with you at the STM Swimming Carnival this Wednesday 28 March and the working bee on Saturday 2 March.
